AND FINALLY...

In this final quarter of your 8th grade year, we will focus on ethics and an ideal society. You've been introduced to Confucius' Great Unity, his ideal society, and you were asked to consider the list of fundamental problems that exist in our world as we know it. With an attempt to arrive at solutions, it's difficult not to begin to question what is an ideal society and the role ethics play in forming such a society, for good and for worse.

Through our studies of the fantasy novel,The Giver by Lois Lowry, we will examine one example of a so-called ideal society and explore the controversial issues of ethics that arise
